Have you ever wanted to harness your dog’s pulling power for team sports? If so, this class is for you. Whether you’d like to skijor (cross-country ski with your dog pulling you), canicross (run with your dog pulling you) or bikejor (bike with your dog pulling you on the bike), you’ll learn the fundamental skills in this 3 session class.
Our first 1 hour session will be held indoors to go over proper harness fit, equipment review and skills that you can start teaching your dog at home before the trials.
The second 1 hour session will take place outdoors (rain or shine) and will be focused on teaching your dogs how to pull. You might think your dog can already do this, but pulling with a proper harness is a skill that needs to be taught to dogs for them to do it properly.
The third and last 1 hour session will take place on the trails, rain or shine, participants will be setting up for canicross. Therefore some ability to jog for short durations (you don’t have to a track athlete) will be required. Dogs must also be comfortable since a bike will also be used on location.

IMPORTANT:
- Dogs must be over at least 18 months of age and free of injuries to participate. Pulling sports can be intensive and are not appropriate for dogs that are still developing.
- Participants are required to have equipment for themselves and their dogs for the class. Pulling harnesses are not the same as a regular harness for a dog. They require a specific joring/pulling harness. This should be connected to a static line, then a bungee and that should be connected to a waist harness on the handler. There should be an emergency release clip where the dog is connected to the handler. Recommended retailers are located below:

In-person Snowy Owl Dog Tours has typically sold pulling harness at their store in Canmore. It is recommended to phone before going.
Cancellation Policy
For classes, full refunds will be issued if classes are cancelled at least five business days ahead of the start of the class. For cancellations within 5 business days of the start of the class, a $100 cancellation fee may be applied if the spot is not filled by the start of class.
